October 24, 1923 ~ June 25, 2014
Florin Dente, of Ridgefield, WA, passed away peacefully at his home on Wed., June 25, 2014, at age 90, surrounded with love by his family and loved ones. He was born to Florin and Josephine Dente in New York on Oct. 24, 1923, where he spent his early years.
Florin served his country in the Navy during World War II. Later, after attending the U.S. Maritime Service Officers school, he served under the U.S. Flag Merchant ships in the North Atlantic convoys and South Pacific towards the end of the war. Florin saw a lot of action during those war years and was on the army transport that dropped troops at Normandy's Utah Beach. He was proud of his service to his country and went on to serve in the Korean War and Vietnam War.
Florin married Georgia Copsey on March 29, 1948 and was blessed with seven children.
He retired from the Merchant Marines in1984, but stayed active in their union activities for many years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid fisherman.
Florin is survived by his children: Michael (Laurie), Barbara (Ron), Josephine (Mike), Georgia (Ken), Anthony, Kathryn (Ron) and Paul (Iva); sixteen grandchildren; twelve great- grandchildren; and many extended family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Georgia, of 61 years; his brother, Eugene; and both of his parents.
A special thanks to Chris for her many years of loving care and friendship, his niece Cayce, and to Hospice of SW Washington.
A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens and a celebration of Florin's life will be held later this summer.
Florin loved animals, especially his dogs, so in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society or a charity of your choosing.
