October 25, 1928 ~ June 7, 2014

Our loving father, brother, companion, and friend, David Beck Cook, passed from this life June 7, 2014. David was born in Salt Lake City, UT, Oct. 25th 1928, to Elmore Wiley and Myrl Lewis. Four years later, he and his younger brother Clifford, were adopted by Clifford West and Pearl Beck Cook of Magna, UT.
David attended and graduated Cyprus High School where he was senior class president and active in many sports.
He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Cannon, in May 1951 after serving 3 years in the United States Navy.
David was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he was involved with the Boy Scouts of America program.
David and Nancy became the parents to eight children. In the early years, life was often chaotic with such a large family. However, Dad always took time to incorporate family vacations with lots of camping and fishing. His pride and joy were a large camper attached to a red truck and the infamous "green boat". Every summer he and Nancy drove the whole lot of children all around the Western States. Needless to say, this resulted in many zany and joyful adventures fondly remembered to this day by all.
Dad had a diverse and varied working career. It began with Don and Dave's TV Repair, followed by electronic technician at Eitel-McCullough in Salt Lake. He wrapped up his career as service representative for Magnavox covering the entire West coast. During this time, he and Nancy moved to Vancouver, WA where they made many friends and became familiar with the Northwest. Dad greatly enjoyed the travel associated with this job, and after many years of service retired in 1991.
David was divorced in 1992, and met Pat Hoffman who was his companion and partner until the day of his passing. The entire family is greatly appreciative for the loving care provided by Pat since Dave was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2009.
Dave was active with the local VFW where he was honored to serve as the all American Post Commander. In addition, he and Pat became members of American Legion Post 14 where they spent many hours supporting 'Kids in Need' programs and other charitable activities.
David is survived by seven children: Rebecca (Phillip) Davis, SLC, UT, Sally (Clell) Boyce, Vancouver, Michael, Ridgefield, WA, Thomas, West Valley, UT, Jody (Bernie) Herrera, Everett, WA, James, Vancouver and D. Alan, Moses Lake, WA; former spouse, Nancy Ann Cook; companion, Pat Hoffman; 17 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son, Joseph; brother, Clifford; daughter-in-law, Julie; and both parents.
A memorial service will be held Sat., June 14, 10:30 a.m. at the American Legion Post 14, 4607 NE St. James Road, Vancouver, WA.
