A Vancouver resident since 1949, Angelina Roberta Salvato, 87, passed away at home January 2, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, with a private interment in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland at a later date.
Angelina was born March 2, 1926, in Ketchikan, Alaska to Mabel and Robert Milonich. She graduated from Ketchikan High School. On January 4, 1946 she married the late Clyde "Joe" Salvato, who was enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. Together they were stationed at Point Retreat Lighthouse in southeast Alaska and North Head Lighthouse in Long Beach, WA. In 1949, they moved to Vancouver, Washington, where they owned rental properties, service stations, and a rental car agency.
Upon moving to Vancouver, Angelina worked in numerous restaurants, including the Quay, Hollands, and Bart's Wharf. She was an active member of the Gateway Elks #2411 and an Emblem member of the Vancouver Elks #823. Additionally, she was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Angelina was of Tsimshian decent, a shareholder of Sealaska, an Alaskan Native Regional Corporation. She was a member of the Episcopal Church.
She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed bowling and social events. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Angelina is preceded in death by her parents Mabel and Robert; her late husband Clyde; son Robert; and sisters Pauline Williams and Jackie Guzliak. She is survived by her significant other of seventeen years, Rodney French; son Dominic Salvato of Anchorage, AK; and sisters Ethel Staton and Shirley Robards of Sitka, AK. She is also survived by grandchildren, Cindy Salvato, Gina Simonson, Angelina Salvato, Scott Salvato, Brian Salvato, Monique Salvato, and Anthony Salvato and numerous great grandchildren.
