After dancing with the battle of breast cancer, Amanda, 84, passed away with family at home. Born in Williston, ND May 18, 1930 the youngest of seven children to her parents, Richard Rathje and Hedwig "Hattie" Mergenthal. She lived in the local area from childhood until her death. She retired from the Washington School for the Deaf in 1995. Amanda treasured family and friends. She was born to dance...other passions were music, horseback riding, traveling, gardening, photography and did we mention, DANCING! Now, she is dancing with the angels.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Bert Rathje, Carl Rathje, Richard Rathje, and Doris Zaske.
Amanda is survived by her brother, Walt Rathje; her sister, Ella Savery; her children, Sandi (John) McBrady of Seattle, WA, Gail (Dan) Carlson of Washougal, WA, Debi Green of Vancouver, WA and Alan (Deanna) Green of Ridgefield, WA; her grandchildren, Chase (Kat), Alaina, Nick, Sean, Tyler; and great-grandchild, CJ.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sat., June 14th, 2014 at ESD 112 (2500 N.E. 65th Avenue, Vancouver, WA 98661).
