Dr. Borzy was one of the few doctors to make a positive impact on me during the years I was seen at OHSU, 1976-1995. If all doctors could be as human as he was and as he treated me as a child of 5, the world would be such a kinder place.

I am a former patient of Dr. Borzy, through Shriners Portland. My earliest childhood memories include this great man. According to my mother, after hundreds of visits to my local pediatrician and emergency room, eventually someone had mentioned Shriners, more particularly Dr.Borzy. He was the only one with the foresight to recommend and order genetic testing. Finally my family had an answer. I was too young then to know, but now I do. This man saved me. Changed my life in so many ways I can't begin to count. I remember I went to see him shortly after the birth of my one and only child. I had aged out of being a Shriners patient at that point, but the staff was still so aquatinted, almost like extended family at that point, that they let him know I'd come to see him. He came out to the lobby, those blistering red and joyous cheeks on full display, and congratulated me on motherhood. He was like a grandpa, a caregiver, and a true warrior for good, all wrapped into one. I'm still in my 30's, but even if I live to be 130, that place in my heart will always be his.

I am sitting at home reading the obituaries and I see a photo of a man sitting with a dog. Upon closer look, I realize I know this guy. I am a retired medical photographer who worked at OHSU from 1984-91. I remember Dr. Borzy, who always wore a long white lab coat and had a great smile. I am so sorry for his passing. I will keep him in my Prayers, and I have made a $500 donation in his name to the Humane Society of Southwest Washington. May you rest in peace Doc.
